An addition to a single storey Edwardian residence on a tight inner suburban site.
The design provides for the addition of an upper level master bedroom "retreat" above additional living, study and laundry areas.
A distinct and simple pavillion addition to the rear is proposed to exploit the potential spatial differences between the ground level and new upper level areas. The upper level retreat is afforded protected views and light beyond and above the property, whilst the new downstairs living areas incorporates the constant presence of the adjacent enclosed ground level garden. The new raised box is clad with timber slats to provide a diffused backdrop to the protected yard and to relate to the materiality of the pickett fence fronting the existing building. Consistent with the locale, a robust form and materiality is provided for the rear laneway. |
