Additions and alterations to an existing 1930's double storey residence with shopfront on a narrow inner suburban site.

A series of additions & subtractions are proposed to the northern edge of the existing narrow building to introduce light, sun and some garden aspect into the ground floor spaces.

The lighter rear addition of new bedroom, kitchen/dining and living areas is designed around a procession of exposed framing elements within a lightweight "thick" north wall. The cavity spaces between these elements provide opportunities for shaded high and low level glazing, shelving and lighting. Externally the framing elements form a rear pergola to the western rear yard, providing a framework for shading devices as required.
